It may still be August, and more than three weeks before the official end of summer, but parts of Canada are already receiving their first snowfall.
Northern areas of Nunuvat including Baffin Island and Resolute received their first snow on Thursday.
Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Flisfeder says they could see a few centimetres of accumulation.
The snow is expected to continue through the day, winding down into the night and early hours of Friday.
Flisfeder says it’s the first August snow in these regions since 2001, although snow in early September is not rare.
He says the last decade or so has seen warmer fall temperatures that have delayed snow.
