TRU international student identified as Kamloops Lake drowning victim

RCMP say the person who drowned in Kamloops Lake last weekend was a international student at Thompson Rivers University.

The student was swimming near the Tobiano Bruker Marina around 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 when they went under in deep water and didn’t resurface, according to an RCMP media release.

“Tobiano Fire Rescue, Kamloops Search and Rescue, Kamloops Fire Rescue along with the BC Conservation Service all attended and attempted to recover the body,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson said in the release.

“The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was called and removed the body.”

RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating the death.

RCMP haven’t released any other information about the drowning victim.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2025-27751.
