National BMX series bunnyhops through Kelowna this weekend

KELOWNA – Even if you don't know the difference between a barspin and a bunnyhop, organizers of the Kelowna Firestorm BMX Nationals say this weekends event has something for everyone.

The third in a series of six nationals will be held in Kelowna June 13-15 and Kelowna BMX Club president Jeff Ingram says more than 400 riders are expected this year.

“This is the Interior’s only National BMX competition,” he says. “Pretty much anyone can enter. There are categories for all ages and skill levels.”

Riders as young as two from across Canada will compete for trophies and a chance at a National title.

“This will be our premiere event of the year,” Ingram says. “It’s fast action and there’s great spectating areas where you can see the entire race.”

Ingram expects more than 1000 spectators to pack Kelowna BMX at 660 Dodd Rd starting at 11:30 Saturday morning.

“I think our oldest rider is 71 years old,” he says. “It’s a great event.”
