Kelowna Rockets blast Thunderbirds at Prospera

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-3 on a rare afternoon start on Monday to celebrate the BC Family Day holiday.

Tyrell Goulbourne had two goals and an assist in an energizing performance to lead the Rockets to the convincing win over Seattle and improve its record to 44-8-4-4 on the season.

Kelowna led 2-0 after the first period and 5-0 through two in the win, which snapped a mini two game losing skid.

Jackson Whistle was solid in net to earn the win as the Rockets outshot Seattle 39-30 in the game.

Myles Bell had his team leading 37th goal of the season and Ryan Olsen scored his 26th while other markers came from Marek Tvrdon, Colton Heffley and Nick Merkley.

Madison Bowey and Damon Severson each had a pair of assists.

Plenty of young children were able to attend the game on the BC Family Day holiday as the Rockets had bouncy castles, face-painting and clowns out in full force for families to take in a Rockets game.

"We thought it would be fun to do something for families on Family Day," said Rockets marketing director Anne-Marie Hamilton. "We wanted to make it not just a hockey game but let kids who normally can't come experience the hockey game and have a good time here at our rink."

The Rockets are right back into action on Wednesday as they will head to Spokane to take on the Chiefs before returning to Prospera Place on Friday to host the Prince George Cougars.
