Police dog locates missing child in Vernon

A missing Vernon child was quickly found safe and sound by a police dog last week.

Family members called Vernon RCMP when their child, who suffers from developmental delays, walked away from a home in the 4600 block of Grandview Flatts Road on Nov. 2.

RCMP Police Dog Services responded to the area at around 3 p.m. to search for the child.

"With temperatures falling, and darkness approaching, it became paramount to locate the child quickly," Const. Chris Terleski said in a media release.

"The Police Dog Service team located a track and, led by police canine ‘Jagger,’ traced it through a wooded area to a gravel pit where the child was found in good condition and returned safely to his family."
