Kamloops McDonald’s employee tests positive for COVID-19

A Kamloops McDonald's employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

An employee from the restaurant location in Walmart on Hillside Drive tested positive for the virus Nov. 8, according to a statement from McDonald's Canada.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party," a McDonald's spokesperson said in the statement.

The restaurant reopened this morning, Nov. 9, and has resumed business.

McDonald's said that all crew members who may have been in close contact with the employee have been asked to self-quarantine.

The employee worked their last shift Nov. 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests who visited the restaurant during that time are advised to follow the according BCCDC guidelines.

Interior Health would not comment on the case.

"Interior Health does not provide specific details about individual cases – including locations – unless there are broader exposure risks," reads an emailed statement. "If there is a broader risk to other individuals or the community, Interior Health will issue a public notification."
