Charges laid in bomb scare

PENTICTON – RCMP are laying criminal charges against a Penticton man who was creating bombs at his home.

Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski could not disclose the name of the suspect, a 30-year-old man, who has been released from custody on conditions.

The man does not have a criminal history, however the Vancouver-based RCMP bomb squad found explosive materials in his backyard and house Friday.

Lozinski said he could not list the items found because it posed a risk to the public since it was essentially a recipe for disaster.

The initial pipe bomb exploded accidentally on Thursday afternoon at 225 Windsor Avenue. A second batch of materials were found and detonated by the bomb squad on Friday.
