Italian skier Matteo Franzoso in medically-induced coma in Chile after fall in training

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Italian skier Matteo Franzoso was in a medically-induced coma in a hospital in Chile after a fall in training on Saturday.

The Italian winter sports federation said that Franzoso has “a major head injury” and is being treated at a hospital in Santiago.

The federation added that the 25-year-old skier received immediate help after the fall before being taken by helicopter to the Chilean capital.

Franzoso won a super-G race on the second-tier European Cup circuit in 2021. He has never finished inside the top 20 in a World Cup race.
