Man arrested following alleged Kelowna bank robbery this morning

A suspect is now in police custody after allegedly robbing a Kelowna bank.

On Nov. 13 shortly after 9:45 a.m., RCMP received a report of a bank robbery in progress at a bank located in the 300 block of Highway 33 West.

RCMP officers flooded the area, established a perimeter and began to search for the reportedly armed suspect, according to the RCMP in a press release. Citizens reported a helicopter circling overhead in the Rutland neighbourhood.

The suspect allegedly entered the bank, approached a teller and demanded cash. He fled the bank on foot with the cash.

"Citizens (told) police that the suspect was observed running through a neighbourhood nearby. Our officers located the suspect on foot in the area of 100-block of Adventure Road," said RCMP Const. Solana Paré, spokesperson for the Kelowna Detachment, in the press release.

"Those officers pursued the suspect on foot, and managed to take that suspect into police custody without incident."

A 43-year-old Kelowna man faces potential charges and remains in police custody.
