KELOWNA – A memorial will be held in Kelowna Tuesday, June 10 for the murdered Moncton RCMP officers. The public and Mounties are invited to attend.
In support of the Moncton RCMP regimental funeral service, Mounties from the Kelowna detachment and members of the public can gather at Trinity Baptist Church at 8:45 a.m. for a service, a few short speeches and live streaming of the funeral.
The church holds 1,900 people and thousands of officers from across Canada are expected to attend the service in Moncton.
The service is for the three RCMP officers, Cst. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, Cst. Douglas James Larche and Cst. Dave Joseph Ross, who were gunned down June 4, 2014.
A 30-hour manhunt ensued and Justin Bourque, 24, of Moncton was arrested June 6. He appeared in court and was charged with three counts of first degree murder and two charges of attempted murder. Two other Mounties were also shot June 4 but survived their injuries.
"This is a public event and an opportunity for us to come together and acknowledge the sacrifice of our fallen members," RCMP Sgt. Ann Morrison said in a media release.
