Hunt is on for suspect in West Kelowna motel arson

A motel in West Kelowna was set on fire last night and police are still searching for the suspected arsonist.

Police were called to the motel at 1600-block of Westgate Road at around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, according to a press release from police. RCMP didn’t identify the motel.

Investigators think the fire was set intentionally and have a suspect in mind but not in custody.

The suspect is a male who was wearing black pants, black sneakers and a transparent blue bag over his head.

RCMP used a police dog and a drone to track the suspect, but he got away.

The West Kelowna RCMP general investigative section is running the investigation now.

“We take these matters very seriously and are actively working to identify the individual responsible,” RCMP Cpl. Devon Gerrits said in the release.

Anyone with information about this case has been asked to contact RCMP at 250-768-2880. To remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online here.
