Weather records fall in Kelowna and Penticton

KAMLOOPS, VERNON FALL SHORT

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – It was definitely a spring-like weekend and there are several new high temperature records to show for it.

In Kelowna the mercury blasted past the previous record, 11.1 Celsius set in 1974, to a balmy 12.8 C on Saturday while temperatures Sunday reached the previous record of 10 C but did not surpass it.

Penticton saw similar results, with temperatures reaching 12.8 C Saturday, well above the 11.1 C set more than 40 years ago, though 10 C on Sunday was not quite enough to break a 73-year-old record of 10.6 C.

While temperatures reached a pleasant 12 C in both Kamloops and Vernon Saturday, it was not enough to best previous records of 14.5 C or 17.8 C set in those cities.

This week temperatures will range in the 7 C to 11 C range, with a mix of sun and cloud. Seasonal normal highs at this time of year are 3 C in the Okanagan and 5 C in Kamloops.
