Prosthetic leg a factor in Armstrong accident

VERNON – The driver who accidentally rammed into an Armstrong business last week has been charged.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the 80-something man is charged under the motor vehicle act with driving without due care and attention.

“The investigators learned that the elderly gentleman had just received a prosthetic leg within the last month or so and that probably was part of the contributing factors to the vehicle running into the store,” Molendyk says.

Three employees and one customer were in the store when the pick-up truck crashed into the building. Fortunately, they were all on the other side of the store. Molendyk says the man’s ability to drive will likely be reexamined.

“Everybody saw him turn, pull right up, and instead of stopping he just continued right on,” Molendyk says.

The truck came to a stop in the middle of the store. The man attempted to drive out, but witnesses advised him to stay put until police arrived.

“It’s a very sad, unfortunate situation,” Molendyk says.
