Islanders rally late to pull out 4-3 overtime victory over Cataractes in QMJHL

SHAWINIGAN — Marcus Kearsey completed his hat trick with the game-winning goal 36 seconds into overtime as the Charlottetown Islanders rallied to a 4-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action.

William Shields scored the other for Charlottetown (4-0-0-1) as part of a run of four unanswered goals that began in the third period. Vincent Gladu made 23 saves.

Félix Lacerte, with two goals, and Jordan Forget scored for Shawinigan (1-1-1-1). Olivier St-Onge stopped 29 shots.

Forget’s goal 2:09 into the third period put the Cataractes ahead 3-0.

But Kearsey got the Islanders on the board at 7:46 on the power play. Shields then made it a one-goal game just over two minutes later before Kearsey added the tying goal with 1:46 left in regulation.
