Kamloops resident with life-threatening injuries after ‘senseless attack’

Kamloops RCMP have made one arrest after someone was seriously assaulted last weekend.

RCMP officers were called about an assault in the 700-block of Notre Dame Drive just after 5 a.m., Sept. 27, according to a press release from police issued today, Oct. 2.

The victim has life-threatening injuries and the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating the case.

“This incident was a senseless attack,” the unit’s supervisor Cpl. Dave Marshall said in the release. “The victim is known to be a kind and generous person who is described as helpful to other residents at the Merit Place Shelter.”

Police have one suspect still in custody, but are asking for the public’s help to find a missing backpack.

It’s a grey and black backpack that was likely discarded somewhere in Sahali, North Shore or downtown Kamloops. It could be in a wooded area or shoreline between the Merrit Place Shelter and the 200-block of Tranquille Road.

Police did not say what’s in the backpack, and no other details about the investigation are going to be released at this time.
