Kamloops woman arrested after stolen vehicle crashes

A Kamloops woman is in custody after she allegedly fled from a stolen vehicle Thursday, but she wasn’t the driver.

Kamloops RCMP spotted a stolen Ford F-350  around 3 p.m., Oct. 2, according to a press release from police.

The license plate on the truck wasn’t associated with any vehicles, RCMP said. Police identified the driver and successfully used a spike belt on Highway 5 to try to stop the truck.

The driver kept going after the spike belt, and they were driving dangerously. Police decided not to pursue the truck since officers believed it would be a public safety risk.

Eventually, the truck collided with another car near Highway 5 and Halston Avenue and hit a power pole.

“The driver and a woman fled from the scene,” Sgt. Jason Pole said in the release.  “A short distance later the woman was arrested, the vehicle has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation and there were no injuries as a result of this incident.”
