Wheat Kings storm back with five unanswered goals in 6-3 win over Blazers in WHL

BRANDON — Chase Surkan got the show started with a power-play goal as the Brandon Wheat Kings scored five unanswered goals to storm past the Kamloops Blazers 6-3 on Thursday night in Western Hockey League action.

Luke Mistelbacher, Giorgos Pantelas, Joby Baumuller, Caleb Hadland and Carter Klippenstein provided the rest of the offence for Brandon (2-5-1). Filip Ruzicka made 27 saves.

JP Hurlbert, Tommy Lafreniere and Josh Evaschesen scored for Kamloops (5-5-0). Ivans Kufterins stopped 29 of 35 shots.

Evaschesen’s goal at 7:06 of the second period put the Blazers ahead 3-1. Almost two minutes later, Surkan netted his seventh of the season.

From there, the Wheat Kings added two more in the middle frame thanks to Pantelas and Baumuller before Hadland and Klippenstein scored in the third period.
