COVID-19 case confirmed at West Kelowna elementary school

A COVID-19 case has been confirmed at George Pringle Elementary School today.

A total of 10 schools in the Central Okanagan School district currently have exposures listed within the last two weeks.

The individual is self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams, according to an email sent to parents from superintendent Kevin Kaardal. They were last at the school on Nov. 13.

"We are supporting Interior Health as they undertake contact tracing to determine if any other members of our school community were in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and if any additional steps are required. We are following the protocol established for these circumstances," according to the email.

The health authority is currently conducting contact tracing and will determine if anyone in the school community was in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 while they were potentially infectious.

The email reminds parents to monitor their children for illness.

The district continues to work closely with Interior Health to provide ongoing communication as required.
