Calgary’s Melissa (Scare) Croden wins UFC debut in October, fights again in November

Calgary bantamweight Melissa (Scare) Croden, who won her UFC debut by knockout Oct. 18, is stepping back in the cage Nov. 8 to face Luana Santos, ranked 15th among 135-pound contenders.

Croden (7-2-0) is replacing the injured Darya Zheleznyakova on the card at the UFC’s Apex production facility in Las Vegas.

The 34-year-old paramedic stopped Brazil’s Tainara (Thai Panther) Lisboa in the third round on a UFC Fight Night card in Vancouver. After a fairly even first round, Croden dominated the rest of the way with a 33-13 edge in significant strikes in the second round and 39-4 advantage in the third before the referee stepped in to halt the punishment with 38 seconds remaining.

All seven of her wins have been by stoppage.

Santos (9-2-0) is also coming off a win over Lisboa, by second-round submission in May. The 25-year-old Brazilian is 4-1-0 in the UFC.

The main event pits Brazil’s Gabriel Bonfim, ranked 14th among welterweight contenders, against Jamaica’s Randy (Rude Boy) Brown.

Canadian strawweight Gillian (The Savage) Robertson and flyweight Jamey-Lyn Horth, meanwhile, have been added to a Dec. 13 UFC card at the Apex.

Robertson, ranked 10th among 115-pound contenders, takes on Brazil’s Iasmin Lucindo while Horth faces Czechia’s Tereza Bleda.

The 30-year-old Robertson, who dropped to strawweight from flyweight (125 pounds) in early 2023, is 5-1-0 at 115 pounds.

Robertson (16-8-0) has won four straight and six of her last seven. She is 13-6-0 since making her UFC debut in December 2017.

Robertson was seven when her family left Niagara Falls, Ont., for Florida so her mother could take a nursing job. Robertson is now based out of Port St. Lucie.

The 23-year-old Lucindo (18-6-0) improved to 5-2-0 in the UFC with a decision win over American veteran Angela (Overkill) Hill in August. Hill is currently ranked 12th among strawweight contenders.

Horth (8-2-0) won a decision over American Vanessa (Lil Monster) Demopoulos last time out in June to improve to 3-2-0 in the UFC. The 35-year-old Horth fights out of Squamish. B.C.

Bleda (7-1-0) is 1-1-0 in the UFC with her last fight in June 2023. She was originally set to meet Horth in June in Atlanta but an injury caused the fight to be postponed.

The Dec. 13 main event features American Brandon (Raw Dawg) Royval, ranked third among flyweight contenders, against No. 7 Manel Kape of Portugal.
