4 COVID-19 cases reported at Penticton Curling Club

The Penticton Curling Club has closed its doors after four members tested positive for COVID-19.

Penticton Curling Club manager Chris Jones says they shut down the facility, Nov. 24, and will be closed until at least Dec. 7 impacting roughly 450 members.

Jones says he spoke to Interior Health this afternoon, Nov. 30, and says the health agency will be in touch with him when contact tracing begins.

So far, the curling club has followed all the protocols required by Interior Health.

“We’re not the only ones getting it in town. How we got here, we don’t know. It’s unfortunate anyone is sick from it,” Jones says.

He believes the four members who tested positive are “doing OK” so far.

Giant’s Head Elementary in Summerland issued a letter to parents last night, Nov. 29, to provide notice a member of the school tested positive for COVID-19. The exposure is the first involving a school community member testing positive in Okanagan Skaha school district.

The school district said in an email this afternoon the potential exposure dates are Nov. 23, 24, 25 and 26. The school board continues to partner with Interior Health to monitor the situation.

Interior Health is carrying out contact tracing, and making a determination as to who might have been in contact with the person who tested positive while they were infectious.

The Penticton Vees hockey team also announced one of their players tested positive over the weekend for COVID-19, sending the entire hockey team into a two-week quarantine.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
