West Kelowna warns of door-to-door gutter marketing scheme

Officials in West Kelowna are warning people about door-to-door gutter guard salespeople making false claims.
The City of West Kelowna and West Kelowna Fire Rescue were told about people going door-to-door telling potential customers that their products have an endorsement from officials, according to a press release issued Thursday, Oct. 30.
“The City of West Kelowna and West Kelowna Fire Rescue have been made aware of false door-to-door marketing that incorrectly claims that the municipality, the fire department, and our fire officials are endorsing or mandating leaf, eave, or gutter guards for homes,” West Kelowna Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Chad Gartrell said in the release.
Gartrell said residents should check FireSmart practices to help make homes resistant to wildfires.
People can call the fire department or go online to find FireSmart recommendations.
The fire department told the police about the misleading marketing and residents can check online here to find ways to avoid being victims of fraud or scams.
