Penticton RCMP get their man with some K9 assistance

Penticton RCMP were assisted by the detachment’s K9 unit in the arrest of a repeat offender today.

Officers were alerted to two men spray painting bicycles behind a building on Yorkton Avenue around 10 a.m. today, Nov. 30, according to an RCMP media release.

One of the officers found a man riding a mountain bike which the officer recognized as being recently stolen. After being told he was being detained, the man dropped the bike and fled on foot.

Several police came to the scene to help locate the suspect, along with police dog services.

The suspect was soon found in the immediate area in thick brush, where he continued to try and elude police until the police dog located him.

A 33-year-old Penticton man is facing a multitude of charges and is currently in police custody. He also has several outstanding warrants.

"This is yet another classic example of a prolific offender creating criminal havoc in our community," Supt. Brian Hunter said in the release. "Prolific offenders do not care who they steal from, nor do they care about the emotional and financial toll their criminal behaviour has on the countless victims in our community, in this case, a bicycle worth $10,000.”

“The Penticton RCMP will continue to target these prolific offenders and work with our justice system in an effort to hold them accountable for their relentless criminal activity,” Hunter said.
