CF Montreal fires assistant coach Maxime Leconte after disciplinary process

MONTREAL — CF Montreal has fired assistant coach Maxime Leconte following an internal disciplinary process.

The Major League Soccer club announced the move Wednesday but did not reveal the reason for Leconte’s dismissal, citing confidentiality.

Leconte, a 35-year-old native of France, only spent a few months with the club after joining the coaching staff in May.

Before joining the MLS club, he spent five years with the CF Montreal Academy, rising from video analyst to head coach of the U17 and U18 squads.

His dismissal comes two weeks after Marco Donadel was named CF Montreal’s permanent head coach.

The Italian took over on an interim basis in March and guided the club through a challenging season, which ended with a 6-18-10 record. CF Montreal fielded both the youngest roster and the lowest payroll in Major League Soccer.
