SilverStar Mountain Resort opens for ski season today

Three of the four major ski resorts in Kamloops and the Okanagan are now open for the season.

SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon opened today, Dec. 4, for season pass holders. The mountain opens to the general public on Monday.

Sun Peaks Ski Resort near Kamloops and Kelowna's Big White Ski Resort are already open for the season. Apex Mountain Resort in the Penticton area is expected to open tomorrow, Dec. 5.

According to SilverStar's website, the forecast on the mountain today calls for sunshine with a few clouds and a daytime high of 2 Celsius.

The mountain has had one centimetre of snow in the past 24 hours and 10 cm over the past seven days. The snow base at the village is 77 cm with 91 cm in the alpine for a cumulative base of 137 cm.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has  discouraged non-essential travel between regions, but encouraged residents to get outside and enjoy their local ski hills. Masks are currently mandated at all indoor public facilities in B.C. and additional COVID-19 protocols are in place at the resort.
