Canada’s Auger-Aliassime qualifies for ATP Finals in Italy

Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime is among the qualifiers for the upcoming ATP Finals.

Whether the Montreal native would qualify or not was to be determined by the winner of the Hellenic Championship tennis final between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti entering Saturday.

Djokovic, who had already qualified for the eight-player event, defeated Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 for his 101st career ATP title and a record 72nd title on hard courts. However, Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, citing a shoulder injury.

Musetti entered the day needing to win to qualify ahead of Auger-Aliassime, but will now replace Djokovic at the event.

The ATP Finals run from Sunday to Nov. 16.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton of the United States, Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Germany’s Alexander Zverev make up the rest of the field for the upcoming event.
