Kamloops school has brief hold and secure after woman sets fire to home

A school in downtown Kamloops was put on hold and secure after a woman in distress was on school property.
Kamloops RCMP were called to the 700-block of Dominion Street after a woman suffering from a mental health crisis set her home on fire around 12:40 p.m. today, Nov. 13, according to a press release from police.
After setting the fire, she made her way to the neighbourhood school.
“Upon police arrival at the school the woman fled to a nearby residence and was located by police and apprehended,” Cpl. Dana Napier said in the release. “The school proactively implemented a hold and secure in an effort to maintain the safety of the students.”
The school was released from hold and secure shortly after the woman was arrested.
Police are working with School District 73 and staff at the school as part of the investigation.
Kamloops Fire Rescue dealt with the fire at the woman’s home.
