Police have arrested three people in Merritt after someone allegedly shot a gun into the air following a car collision.
Merritt RCMP received a report that shots were fired from a vehicle in the 2000-block of Nicola Avenue around 3 a.m. on Nov. 16, according to a press release from police.
The suspected vehicle struck a barrier as it went into a parking lot, which led to an argument between the people in the vehicle and another group, RCMP said.
While the suspect vehicle was leaving someone shot a gun into the air, but no one was hurt.
Police found the suspect vehicle at a home in the 2300-block of Coutlee Avenue. Investigators seized the vehicle and took two people into custody.
Officers executed a search warrant on the home and arrested a third person.
“Despite the lack of injuries, discharging a firearm in public is an extremely dangerous thing to do,” Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Josh Roda said in the release. “Merritt RCMP General Investigations Section has taken conduct of the investigation and are treating this as a priority.”
Anyone with information who hasn’t spoken to police has been asked to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
