Metro Vancouver pair charged in casino fraud amounting to $45,000

[byline]

SURREY — Two Metro Vancouver residents have been charged with fraud for an alleged scheme at local casinos that accumulated $45,000 in proceeds.

British Columbia’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit says in a statement that they began an investigation in April after reports of fraudulent transactions at multiple casinos in the Lower Mainland.

Police say the alleged scheme obtained about $45,000 over a two-week period between mid-March and April, although the details surrounding the fraud have not been released.

The BC Prosecution Service then approved fraud charges against 50-year-old Yu Ju Lu of White Rock and 39-year-old Inderjit Singh of New Westminster, both of whom have turned themselves in to police.

Police say one of the suspects had been working at a casino in New Westminster at the time.

Both accused have been released on conditions with the expectation that they’ll return to court at a later date.
