CHILLIWACK — A pedestrian has been killed crossing the road in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley in a collision involving a pickup truck.
RCMP in Chilliwack, B.C., say the crash happened Tuesday at about 4:20 p.m. on Vedder Road, between the Highway 1 overpass and Luckakuck Way.
Police say the 63-year-old female pedestrian was crossing the road when she stepped back from the centre median into the southbound lane that she had already crossed.
She was struck by a 2007 GMC Sierra driven by a 63-year-old man who stopped immediately along with witnesses who provided first aid.
Paramedics and firefighters also attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are now investigating the cause of the fatal crash and say that neither speed, alcohol nor distracted driving appear to be contributing factors.
