Delta, B.C., man charged with second-degree murder in sister-in-law’s death

DELTA — A Delta, B.C., man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his sister-in-law, whose body was found in a burning car last month.

Police in the Metro Vancouver city say 24-year-old Gurjot Singh Khaira had previously been charged with indignity to human remains in the case, while the murder charge was approved on Tuesday.

The body of 30-year-old Mandeep Kaur was found Oct. 26 after what police describe as a “motor vehicle incident and subsequent vehicle fire” along Highway 17.

Kaur was the only person inside the vehicle.

Police say the early investigation revealed Kaur’s death appeared to be suspicious in nature, prompting major crime investigators to take the case.

Khaira was arrested on Nov. 6 and has remained in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Dec. 11.
