iN NUMBERS: Which Thompson-Okanagan city is hiking taxes the most

It’s the holiday season, ski season, hockey season, but it’s also city budget season. That magical time of year when a municipality’s fiscal responsibility, or lack thereof, comes to the forefront and elected officials decide how much more property owners are going to have to cough up.

It’s still early so these numbers could change, but here’s a peek at proposed property tax increases for 2026 in Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. 

Here are the numbers:

  • 4.47: Per cent is Kelowna’s proposed property tax increase.
  • 1: Billion dollars is Kelowna’s proposed total budget for 2026. 
  • 5.93: Per cent is Penticton’s proposed property tax increase. 
  • 11: Dollars a month is the proposed property increase for the average Penticton homeowner.
  • 8.6: Per cent is West Kelowna’s proposed property tax increase. 
  • 162: Million dollars is the projected revenue for the City of West Kelowna in 2026. 
  • 10.24: Per cent is Vernon’s proposed property tax increase. 
  • 11: Per cent was Vernon’s property tax increase in 2025. 
  • 10.76: Per cent is Kamloops’ proposed property tax increase.
  • 309: Dollars would be the increase on the average property tax bill in Kamloops.
