Kamloops’s Camp Out to End Youth Homelessness raises more than $100K

An annual Kamloops fundraiser for homeless youth raised more than $100,000 this past weekend.

A Way Home Kamloops hosted their annual Camp Out to End Youth Homelessness, Dec. 11 and 12, far surpassing the $50,000 goal, according to a Facebook post.

A Way Home's executive Katherine McParland died unexpectedly, Dec. 4, but the board made the decision to go ahead with the event as scheduled.

"Katherine was a woman of action, and she would want us to continue her work," board chair Louise Richards said last week.

Community members spent a night outside in a cardboard box in honour of youth without a home. Campers were encouraged to raise pledges and donations for A Way Home's programs that support homeless youth.

This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, campers attended virtually from home and connected over Zoom.

Although the event is over, you can still donate online here.
