A COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in the South Okanagan continues to grow.

So far, 38 residents and 15 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at McKinney Place Extended Care in Oliver, for a total of 53 cases to date, according to an Interior Health media release issued today, Dec. 14.

That’s up from a total of 41 cases reported at the long-term care facility on Friday, Dec. 11, when 27 residents and 14 staff members had tested positive.

McKinney Place is operated by Interior Health and is connected to South Okanagan General Hospital. The long-term care section has 61 residents in the 75 publicly funded long-term care beds. The hospital is not included in the outbreak.

In Penticton, Village by the Station long-term care home is monitoring four positive cases reported there, up from three cases reported Friday.

A total of 250 new cases were reported throughout the Interior Health region since Friday, with 28 people in hospital and six in intensive care.
