Charges laid in connection with devastating gas station fire

VERNON – The store manager of a gas station that went up in flames has been charged with arson.

Donald Jeffrey Thomas, 43, faces six counts in connection to a 2012 fire at the Super Save gas station on Highway 97 in Enderby, including arson and mischief endangering life. The fire, which firefighters said originated in a back room, devastated the building, which was also home to the Quilakwa art gallery. A new building as since been constructed.

Thomas was the gas station's manager at the time. The president of the company Murray Rossworn won’t comment on the situation because it is now before the courts.

Thomas is expected to appear in Salmon Arm Provincial Court Feb. 18.
