DOBBIN: NDP & Liberals must cooperate to defeat Conservatives

KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops Chapter of the Council of Canadians is hosting a talk by author and social activist Murray Dobbin who, noting these are extraordinary times, is encouraging federal New Democrats and Liberals to cooperate to defeat the Conservatives in the next national election set for Oct. 19.

Anita Strong, chair of the local chapter, notes that there have been many opinions offered by progressive Canadians about the most effective way to ensure that Stephen Harper’s Conservatives do not continue to govern after the Oct. 19 federal election.

“The Conservatives received about 39 per cent of the vote in 2011 so we know the majority of Canadians voted for other parties” said Strong. “We invited Murray Dobbin to talk in Kamloops about how the other two main parties can work together to end Harper’s reign.”

Strong lists a litany of concerns about Harper including his reliance on a fossil fuel economy, degrading environmental protections, increased militarism, attacks on democracy, and his hyper-partisan approach to governing.

Dobbin’s free public talk is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 12, at the Barber Centre, Thompson Rivers University.
