TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays selected right-hander Spencer Miles from the San Francisco Giants in the major-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old returned to the Arizona Fall League this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024.
The six-foot-three, 180-pounder made five appearances for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He had 12 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings, with his fastball topping out at 98.4 m.p.h.
Miles was picked by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2022 first-year player draft. He missed the 2023 season after undergoing back surgery.
Miles made five appearances in 2024 before he suffered a right flexor strain that led to elbow surgery.
Rule 5 draft picks are assigned directly to the drafting club’s 26-man roster. They must be placed on outright waivers in order to be removed from the roster in the subsequent season.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 10, 2025.
