Two more deaths reported at Oliver’s McKinney Place care home

The COVID-19 outbreak at a South Okanagan care home continued to intensify today with the report of two more deaths.

That brings the death total at McKinney Place in Oliver to three, Interior Health President and CEO Susan Brown said in a release this afternoon, Dec. 18.

The facility reported its first death on Dec. 15.

The case count at the facility remains at a total of 56 cases this afternoon.

“This has been a challenging outbreak for everyone who lives at McKinney, their loved ones, and their staff and physicians who are committed to their care. On behalf of everyone at Interior Health we send our condolences to the families and caregivers and despite this tragic news, we remain committed to the fight against COVID-19,” Brown said.

Two other care homes in the region are also struggling with exposures.

Village By The Station, a long-term care home in Penticton, remains at four cases of COVID-19, unchanged from yesterday. Mountainview Village long-term care home in Kelowna has a total of 10 cases.
