Deadly head-on crash between two semis near Revelstoke

Conditions on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Southern Interior are likely behind a pair of crashes involving big rigs this morning, one of the collisions claimed the life of the driver.

RCMP were called to a fatal collision on Highway 1 east of Revelstoke around 9:20 a.m., Dec. 12, according to a press release from police.

Two semi trucks got into a head-on collision and one of the drivers died at the scene. The other driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The highway is closed in both directions as RCMP investigate.

The second crash happened shortly after at 9:30 a.m. on Highway 1 east of Golden.

Two semi trucks crashed and completely blocked the highway.

Both drivers had serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The highway was closed but it has reopened for single-lane alternating traffic as the investigation continues.

“The Golden-Field RCMP would like to remind drivers to drive to conditions and only travel if necessary. The roads are treacherous with the current weather conditions,” Golden-Field RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Mitch Mercier said in the release.
