iN NUMBERS: High-end short-term rentals still making big bucks in Okanagan, Kamloops

The average person renting out a typical Airbnb in Kamloops and the Okanagan might have been hit hard by the provincial short-term rental regulation.

But there are still some high-end homes listed on Airbnb that rake in some serious cash. 

Here are some stats from Airroi.com:

  • 228: Dollars a day is the average rate for an Airbnb in Kelowna. 
  • 210: Dollars a day is the average rate for an Airbnb in Penticton.
  • 110: Dollars a day is the average rate for an Airbnb in Kamloops. 
  • 202: Dollars a day is the average rate for an Airbnb in Vernon.
  • 223,300: Dollars was the estimated annual revenue for Kelowna’s top performing Airbnb this year.
  • 113,425: Dollars was the estimated annual revenue for Kamloops’ top performing Airbnb this year.
  • 110,310: Dollars was the estimated annual revenue for Penticton’s top performing Airbnb this year.
  • 130,700: Dollars was the estimated annual revenue for Vernon’s top performing Airbnb this year.
  • 24,318: Dollars a year. That’s how much more revenue Airbnbs with sun loungers make compared to listings without sun loungers in Kamloops.
  • 67: Per cent. That’s the increase in occupancy rate for Airbnbs with kayaks in Kelowna compared to listings without kayaks.
  • 89: Million dollars in Provincial Sales Tax and Municipal Regional District Tax were collected and remitted by Airbnb in BC in 2024.
  • 93: Per cent. That was the increase in short-term rentals in Kelowna between 2020 and 2023.
  • 1,217: Short-term rentals were legally operating in Kelowna before the ban.
  • 606: is the number of active Airbnb listings in Kelowna at the moment.
