COVID-19 outbreak declared at West Kelowna retirement home

Interior Health has declared an outbreak at a West Kelowna at an assisted living facility that includes four staff members and six residents.

The health authority announced the outbreak at Heritage Retirement Residence today, Dec. 22, in a media release.

All individuals in close contact with these individuals are in self-isolation and monitoring for symptoms, Interior Health said.

Interior Health and the operator of the care home will continue to monitor the situation, while implementing additional infection control and preventive measures which includes monitoring all residents for respiratory symptoms and doing COVID-19 testing on anyone with COVID-19 symptoms as well as implementing enhanced cleaning protocols and COVID-19 visitor policies.

Heritage Retirement Residence is a private assisted living and independent living residence operated by Verve Senior Living. The operator has implemented a temporary stop to all visits across the site as an added precaution.

There are currently three COVID-19 outbreaks at care homes or assisted living facilities in Interior Health.

Interior Health has frequently updated COVID-19 information on its public website.
