Police spent several days going after gang and drug activity in Kamloops earlier this month and managed to seize some drugs and guns.
Officers with the Combined Special Enforcement Unit of BC, the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team along with Kamloops RCMP members conducted an operation between Dec. 9 to 12, according to a press release from police issued today, Dec. 19.
Police found 1.75 kilograms of drugs including suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl. Officers also seized 11 illegally possessed firearms and some more weapons and cash police believe are associated with drug dealing.
Over the four days, officers were deployed around the city “with particular attention to the North Shore and other areas identified through ongoing intelligence, enforcement priorities and community safety
concerns,” police said.
“By removing illegal firearms and toxic drugs from our streets, we reduce the risk of violence and disrupt criminal networks that prey on vulnerable individuals. (The Combined Special Enforcement Unit of BC) will continue working closely with police agencies across the province to target those engaged in gang and drug-related activity,” RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Sarbjit Sangha said in the release.
Police said multiple people were arrested and released pending investigations. Some were kept in custody due to outstanding warrants for unrelated matters.
