Deer have become a part of urban centres and residential neighbourhoods in the Thompson-Okanagan region, and sometimes the bucks get their antlers caught up in items like Christmas lights, hockey nets and clothing.
The deer are rutting from mid-October to December when they can be seen rubbing their antlers on trees, and sometimes getting caught up in things in the process. Some of the deer spotted in the region this fall and winter have some strange items hanging in their antlers.

When the materials are tangled only in the antlers, the problem resolves itself when the antlers are shed at the end of the season, according the BC SPCA. If the animal is caught up in a way that limits its mobility, the Conservation Officer Service should be called.
At this time of year, residents can help prevent entanglements by hanging Christmas lights up high and removing loose netting from yards.

Right… Five point buck walked away with the outside Christmas tree lights — twice. Guess he takes courtship seriously *(*
