CF Montreal trades midfielder Dante Sealy to Rapids for up to US$2.5M in GAM

MONTREAL — CF Montreal traded midfielder Dante Sealy to the Colorado Rapids for up to US$2.5 million in general allocation money Tuesday.

Montreal will receive $1.15 million guaranteed in 2026 and $750,000 in 2027, with the potential for an additional $600,000 if certain performance-based conditions are met. The team did not say what those conditions were.

The Major League Soccer club also said it could retain a sell-on percentage if Sealy is transferred out of Colorado “above a specified amount,” but did not disclose the percentage or the required threshold.

Sealy scored nine goals and provided two assists in 30 games last season for Montreal, which finished 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 6-18-10 record.

The 22-year-old from New York joined the club on Feb. 6 after spending the first four seasons of his MLS career with FC Dallas.

He now moves to a Colorado side that went 11-15-8 last season for 11th in the West.

“We’d like to thank Dante for his efforts and contributions throughout last season,” said CF Montreal executive Luca Saputo in a statement. “The club wishes him the best of luck as he moves forward with this next step of his career.”
