Seven people treated for smoke inhalation after fire at Nanaimo, B.C., motel

NANAIMO — Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation in hospital after a fire broke out in a motel in Nanaimo, B.C.

Mounties in Nanaimo say officers and fire crews responded to the Value Lodge motel at around 3 a.m. on Friday for the fire.

BC Emergency Health Services says in a Saturday statement that seven patients were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation

Police say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Value Lodge posted a statement on its website, saying the motel will be closed indefinitely.

The motel says the closure allows it to assess the damage and begin the long process of recovery.

The motel says it’s devastated that many guests have been displaced and its team has been working with local authorities and relief organizations to ensure everyone’s safety.
