The outdoor rink at Stuart Park in Kelowna was bustling on Christmas Day with families enjoying the ice despite an overcast day, and Kelowna resident Chris Klugh captured the festive fun.
His video Christmas Day at Stuart Park 2025 shows adults and children dressed in vibrant colours skating, gathering around a brilliant lit up Christmas tree and warming up over a fire against an overcast backdrop.
With a background in videography, Klugh takes interest in his community and surrounding outdoor spaces the Okanagan has to offer.
“I got an old GH5 camera with old batteries, so I don’t use it as much, but those batteries still had a bit of life in them so I figured why not go see what’s happening downtown on Christmas,” he said.
The footage is a compilation of photographs captured at two frames per second, resulting in what looks almost like a time-lapse video.
At one point, curious kids came up to smile in the camera.
“The kids were definitely being kids,” he said. “I was trying to explain what I was doing because they were thinking it was video and were motivated to make funny faces, it was funny.”
That evening the rain started to fall and Klugh said the rink cleared out quickly.
Stuart Park, located at 1430 Water Street, features activities throughout the year. The rink offers free skating all day, every day from early December through to early March. Skates, helmets and EZ bars are available for rent onsite between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
