‘Mysterious’ crash kills Vancouver driver on Coquihalla Highway

HOPE, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — Police in British Columbia are seeking public help in their investigation into what they call a “mysterious” fatal crash on the Coquihalla Highway on the weekend.

The BC Highway Patrol says the crash happened on Saturday between 11:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. near Hope, between Othello Road and the Sowaqua chain-up area.

Police say a white Toyota Yaris hatchback left the highway and crashed down an embankment, and the 21-year-old woman driver from Vancouver died in hospital two days later.

However, investigators say no witness to the crash has surfaced despite the crash happening “in broad daylight,” and the victim was not able to tell police what happened before she died.

Police are seeking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash area at the time of the incident to determine if it had a criminal cause.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the BC Highway Patrol in Chilliwack.
