Suspension for BC physiotherapist who had sexual relationship with client

A BC physiotherapist who had a sexual relationship with a client has been suspended for 30 days.

According to a Dec. 23 BC College of Health and Care Professionals public notice, Daljodh Khaira admitted that he’d failed to maintain professional boundaries when he initiated and had a sexual relationship with a client.

The College said it found out about the relationship and began an investigation following a complaint in August.

The relationship constituted “sexual misconduct,” the public notice said.

The regulator also said that Khaira, who works in Langley and Surrey, had failed to maintain clinical records, but didn’t give details as to what happened.

“The (regulator) took into account that Mr. Khaira’s failures not only impacted the individual client, but also had the potential to impact on patient care, patient safety and the public interest more generally if not addressed,” the public notice said.

The regulator said Khaira had initiated and pursued a “non-therapeutic relationship” with the client, but didn’t give any details about the relationship or how long it lasted.

Khaira signed a consent agreement admitting to his behaviour and consented to quarterly audits of his clinical records for the next 18 months.

His licence is now suspended until Jan. 22, 2026.

“The (College) is satisfied that the agreement contains sufficient terms to ensure that Mr. Khaira learns from this experience, that the profession is cautioned from engaging in similar conduct, and the public is adequately protected,” the public notice said.
