iN VIDEO: Avalanche control near Revelstoke packs a punch
The weight carried by showshed tunnels along the Trans-Canada Highway was on full display this week in footage of some avalanche control efforts.
The Laurie avalanche path is on the other side of the valley from #BCHWY1 but can cross the Illecillewaet River when triggered. This planned #avalanche control work left ~10cm of dry powder on the highway that @EmconD crews removed before traffic was released. [2/5] @TranBC pic.twitter.com/oQrbDMp9ZT

The images are following avalanche control conducted on Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Highway 1 Lanark snowshed, which is approximately 46 kilometres east of Revelstoke.
The sheer volume of snow they’re able to carry is remarkable, but it's not the only structure tasked with such a burden.
There are 1,400 avalanche paths that affect B.C. roads and structures that divert or block snow, accordingly. To stay safe, however, the ministry reminds drivers that avalanche areas are marked and drivers should not stop when within the marked-off areas.
Snow much snow!!?? This photo of the Lanark snowshed after yesterday's avalanche control, shows why the shed is situated on Hwy 1, about 46 km east of Revelstoke. pic.twitter.com/WhLYCZTxaq
