TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have waived centre Mo Bamba.
The seven-footer appeared in two games after signing as a free agent Dec. 29. He could be re-signed on a 10-day contract as early as Thursday.
Bamba did not score in his brief stint with the Raptors.
Toronto brought Bamba in as frontcourt depth while starter Jakob Poeltl continued to rehabilitate a lower-back injury. Head coach Darko Rajakovic said on Monday that Poeltl has been cleared for contact.
Bamba didn’t play in either of Toronto’s wins over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday and Monday, but Rajakovic said that the 27-year-old was eager to learn the team’s systems.
“Anytime when we do have a practice, we don’t have to rush things (with him),” said Rajakovic before Saturday’s game. “We can get more reps in certain situations, offensively, defensively, and we can go back and teach and clean up things.
“We always have some good film that we watch.”
Bamba was the sixth overall pick by Orlando in the 2018 NBA draft. He has averaged 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over seven NBA seasons with six teams.
