Jets down Devils 4-3 to postback-to-back wins for first time since mid-November

WINNIPEG — Tanner Pearson’s go-ahead goal six minutes into the third period held up to give the Jets a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday, marking Winnipeg’s first back-to-back victories since mid-November.

It was also the first time the Jets have won a one-goal game since Nov. 15, snapping a dubious NHL record of 13 consecutive losses in one-goal matches.

Alex Iafallo, Jonathan Toews and Gabriel Vilardi also scored for the Jets (17-22-5). Cole Perfetti and Josh Morrissey both recorded a pair of assists.

Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for Winnipeg, which last put up back-to-back wins Nov. 15-18.

Winnipeg-born forward Cody Glass scored twice and Nico Hischier also had a goal for the Devils. Luke Hughes and Jack Hughes both had two assists.

Jake Allen stopped 18 shots for New Jersey (22-21-2), which lost four consecutive games for the first time since early December.

The first period didn’t have any scoring until the last two minutes.

Iafallo’s shot hit a body on the way in at 18:50 but Hischier tied it 37 seconds later with a goal off a rebound.

The second period began with three quick goals, but only two counted.

Glass gave the Devils the 2-1 lead at 1:05 when he redirected a pass from Luke Hughes, but Toews replied with a tying goal at 2:36.

New Jersey defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler’s shot went in just under a minute later, but the Jets successfully challenged for goaltender interference because Paul Cotter had bumped into Hellebuyck.

Glass scored his ninth goal of the season off a rebound to officially take the 3-2 lead at 8:08, but Vilardi recorded his 18th when he batted the puck in with 2:03 left in the middle frame.

Pearson recorded his sixth goal of the season after taking a pass from Morrissey to the front of the net to go up 4-3 at 6:17 of the third.
